Get a Grip! Winter is fast approaching, so get a grip! As I was driving into work today I heard an advert on Spire FM from one of our local tyre centres. It was explaining the importance of grip and traction at this time of year. This got me thinking just like car tyres worn grips are one of those things that sneak up on you; and given they directly affect your control of the club, they can have a profound effect. It's not just that your hands are more likely to slip on a worn grip, especially in the rain; it's also that you'll sense this unconsciously, and start to grip the club tighter. That can get you into a whole host of nasty swing traits, usually involving loss of rhythm and power. Like every other part of the game, grip technology has leapt forward. The latest grips we stock offer a range of textures, hand-specific patterns and moisture resistance. Regrip your clubs with us and we can guarantee you the best connection with the club possible. We can also ensure their thickness suits your hand size - a vital aspect of controlling the club, and one that needs an expert eye. Preferred lies Starting 1st November Now that the clocks have gone back and we find ourselves edging towards winter, many golf courses will have introduced a Local Rule for 'Preferred Lies'. When this is in force, it allows you to mark, clean (especially important if your ball is covered in mud like in this photo) and place your ball within six inches of where it has come to rest, providing it was on a closely mown area - i.e. the fairway. If you're unsure on this or any other rule, please come and speak to a member of the pro shop team. |

An all-American affair Xander Schauffele showed U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk exactly what he was missing at Le Golf National, as he pulled off a stunning play-off victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Schauffele clawed back a three-shot deficit to fellow American Tony Finau, making birdies on the final two holes to force a play-off, before making another birdie at the first sudden-death hole to win his third PGA title. Schauffele was named 'Rookie of the Year' in the 2016-17 season, and is proving his credentials once again this year, despite switching equipment manufacturers at the start of the season. If you’re also thinking of a move away from your current set of clubs, come down to the shop and we’ll get you fitted down to every last detail! Request a fitting here. |
Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour. |
Introducing BIG MAX Aqua Space This is where a cart bag like the Aqua Space comes into play. This bag has been designed with 100% waterproof material, including nine taped-seam waterproof zip pockets so that everything will be kept dry for the whole round no matter what the weather holds in store. The nine pockets also mean it's spacious enough for your extra layers (think waterproofs, jumpers, woolly hat, mitts etc) whilst there are specific holders for your umbrella, towel and glove; you’ll be ready for whatever gets thrown at you this winter. |
